LLRC FT and Perkasa yesterday beat Menglait FC and P Lun Bawang, respectively to advance to the second round of the 2008 DSTGroup Brunei FA Cup.
LLRC FT had a brilliant start to the campaign thrashing Menglait FC 5-0 at the JBS Field last night. And their hero was Md Shah Hafiz Kipli who scored a hat-trick on the 32nd, 46th and 57th minutes.
The striker, who turned 20 last week, said he couldn't have asked for a better start and that he would try his best to help his team to win the Cup.
Md Shah Hafiz, who works at the Brunei Shell Petroleum Headquarters, added that last night's match was the team's best performance this season, citing their brilliant teamwork as the main factor for their victory.
"Of the three goals, I like my second goal the best as the cross from the right landed perfectly on my right foot and I put it cleanly past the goalkeeper," he said.
LLRC FT opened the scoring when Md Shah Hafiz bagged his first goal of the night in the 32nd minute.
And Hanafi Suhaili quickly made it 2-0 from the spot six minutes later.
Md Shah Hafiz then scored two more goals to kill off the match.
But Menglait FC's nightmare didn't end there Md Azri Jebri making it a night to remember for LLRC FT with the team's fifth goal in the 77th minute.
"Tonight we played very well, all the players followed the coach's instructions ... it was good attacking football," said assistant manager of LLRC FT Ahmad Sazarin Hj Ahmad Sabli.
"The players responded well to the challenge and I have to congratulate Md Shah Hafiz for his hat-trick ... he is in good form," he added.
Based in Lumut, LLRC FT train five times a week and were glad to see their hard work paid off last night.
"We created a lot of opportunities and had excellent finishes. Our defence and attack were very good and we had 70 per cent of the ball," said LLRC FT coach Hj Affandi Hj Julaihi.
