LIANG Lumut Recreational Club (LLRC) Football Team continued their high-scoring exploits in the DSTGroup Brunei Premier League II (BPL II) yesterday to firmly establish their threat for the title. The only team in the competition to have picked up maximum points from their three opening games, the new league leaders breezed past Kota Ranger 8-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex and have now scored 19 goals while letting in only one.
.
Annuar Hj Seidil and Md Azri Jebri each contributed a hat-trick to the win, and they could have easily bagged more for the Belait-based team, who ended last season as runners-up to AM Gunners FC in the BPL II.
.
Annuar took just five minutes to open the scoring when he connected on a cross from the right, with Md Azri making it 2-0 in the 16th minute after rounding Kota Ranger's goalkeeper Mohd Hazwan Zulfaqar Md Yaakub.
.
An own goal by Md Salwa Faizal Hj Abidin who was unlucky to see a shot on goal deflect off him meant LLRC enjoyed a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
.
Continuing to pull all the strings in midfield, LLRC found their fourth goal in the 58th minute when Md Azri's diving header from Annuar's cross on the right post found the back of the net.
.
LLRC's relaxed passing and good teamwork meant they played most of the half inside enemy territory, and their defenders were equally as impressive when called into action.
.
One such instance came in the 67th minute when left-back Jasni Juri broke up a Kota Ranger attack, fed his teammate a pass, continued his run, controlled the return pass and rounded Mohd Hazwan Zulfaqar to cap off a fluid attack.
.
LLRC would continue to tear their opponents apart, with Md Azri finding his third goal in the 70th minute scoring with a simple tap in after making the most of an increasingly confused Kota Ranger box.
.
Not to be outdone, Annuar cut past Kota Ranger right-back Azlan Firdaus Shahdan in the 80th minute and unleashed a shot which left Mohd Hazwan Zulfaqar with no chance.
.
He scored his hat-trick five minutes from time after skipping past Azlan and hurling another cannonball past the helpless Mohd Hazwan Zulfaqar.
.
Not satisfied with the onslaught of goals, LLRC's coach said he was expecting the team to hit the double-digit barrier.
.
"My hope was that it would be 10-0, but I guess this scoreline is alright too," said Hj Affandi Hj Julaihi.
.
"I aim to win the league this year, but we have yet to meet the stronger teams like the Prisons Department and Perkasa," he added.
.
Title contenders Prisons Department were held to a surprise 0-0 draw against Lun Bawang at the Batu Apoi Sports Complex in Temburong.
.
The third afternoon game saw Brunei Youth (Under-16) pick up a 2-2 draw against Menglait FC, their first point after defeats in their opening two matches. The Brunei Times
